Binding a quilt with minky fabric.
Quilting with a 90 14 topstitch needle helps protect the thread and resists thread shredding and breaking.
Use a 90 14 topstitch needle.
Once the minky is taped down with just a tiny bit of stretch i flatten the batting on top and spread it out.
Thicker fabric tends to be more abrasive on the needle and thread.
When you sew two pieces of minky together be sure that the fibers are lined up in the same direction.
When binding a quilt with minky you will want to have a thicker binding than you would with a cotton binding because of the extra bulk.
If the naps are running opposite there will be a noticeable difference in color and sheen.
Make sure your back is cut square.
When i baste the quilt i am careful to gently stretch the minky just a tiny bit and tape it in place on my floor or you can use tables for easier accessibility if you have one large enough.
