For this quilt i did the classic hand sewn binding method that my grandma taught me.
Binding a quilt with minky backing.
If the naps are running opposite there will be a noticeable difference in color and sheen.
Just fold over and sew.
The only thing i do differently when backing a quilt with minky instead of regular cotton is to make sure i cut wide enough strips 2 5 usually and test to make sure there is enough binding to fully cover the initial stitch line.
For the binding i wrapped the backing to the front of the quilt and mitered the corners.
Minky does not ravel so you only have to sew over one layer of fabric not bulky at all.
Trim the cotton until there is 1 extra around all sides of the minky.
No pictures of this step sorry.
Sew cotton and minky wrong sides together using a 1 4 seam and be sure to pin well so the layers don t shift.
Then i cut it 2 1 2 inches wide.
Once you are at the point that you are ready to bind a quilt that is backed in minky or cuddle trim the excess of leaving about 1 of backing and batting.

After the corner has been stitched and trimmed kelly shows how to complete the mitered corner by simply folding the minky towards the wrong side.
This tutorial will show you how to get a beautiful finish with mitered corners.

I used elmers school glue instead of pins and used a serpentine stitch.
I stitch the strips together and press in half lengthwise.
Use your quilt backing as the binding.
A touch from the iron helps here to set the crease.
When you sew two pieces of minky together be sure that the fibers are lined up in the same direction.
Make sure your back is cut square.
This is a great way to use up scraps of minky fabric.
Jenny doan has a great tutorial on folding minky to the front for binding.
When binding a quilt with minky you will want to have a thicker binding than you would with a cotton binding because of the extra bulk.
It still takes a little bit longer to bind than a quilt backed in cotton or flannel but it is worth the extra expense to save yourself grief in the binding process.
Then i stitch the binding on the front of quilt and wrap around the edge to the back and hand stitch the back.
